Similar to other newer service providers still establishing their footing, 1×2 Gaming has been somewhat conservative in the themes they’ve chosen to imbue their games with thus far. Irish, Robin Hood, Western, and Pirates are all examples of fairly regular themes that have been exploited with varied degrees of success. Asgard Warriors is 1×2 Gaming’s take on the brutal Vikings of the north. Never mind Valhalla, the ancient warriors are repeatedly immortalized in the iGaming world.
Even though the gods lived on Asgard, one of the nine planets encircling the tree of life, the warriors of Asgard appear more at home in Midgard. Most slot players know by now that Earth is called Midgard. A 243-ways-to-win grid with 5 reels floats over a stormy sea, surrounded by rocky outcrops and beautiful woods. I was reminded of classic hack ‘n slash games like Golden Axe and beat ’em ups like Double Dragon when I saw the grid filled with muscular warriors of both sexes, although with slightly pixelated visuals. The music is a little less engaging, but the sweeping choral song does a great job of complementing the grid and its environs.
Asgard Warriors is a medium-volatility slot game playable on desktop computers, mobile devices, and tablets, with betting limits ranging from 10 pence to fifty pounds a spin. Opening the paytable and seeing an RTP value of 94.56% is a letdown after the game’s positive initial impression.
Asgard Warrior’s base-level payouts include J through A playing card symbols that seem if they were carved from gray steel or stone. Above these are symbols such as battle helms, shields, and hammers; above them are symbols such as an elder male warrior, a warrioress, and a bare-chested hunk with magnificent pecs. Five character symbols will result in a payout of 5x to 10x your initial wager. The Viking Longship is a wild symbol for this segment and may be substituted for any other pay symbol.
Slot Machine Asgard Warriors Bonus Rounds
The biggest thrills in Asgard Warriors come from two sources: the randomly triggered round of free spins, and an additional base game feature called Warrior Spins. When a full reel of character symbols appears, the sole bonus in the main game, Warrior Spins, is activated. For the remainder of the spin, the remaining reels will only have high-paying image symbols or wilds.
Scatter symbols are represented by skulls, and when 3, 4, or 5 appear, the player receives 8, 12, or 16 more free games. Having a win multiplier in place boosts the player’s odds of winning big during free spins. It begins at x1 and rises each time a scatter symbol appears. The multiplier and the amount of remaining free spins are each multiplied by 1, 2, 3, 4, or 5 for each scatter that is landed.
Result of the Slot Game Asgard Warriors
You might be put off by Asgard Warriors’ seeming simplicity at first, but the game’s modest charm will likely win you over after a few rounds. Despite the prevalence of Viking-themed slots, this game does not immediately assault you with eye-popping visuals. To disarm you and eventually win you over, 1×2 Gaming has adopted the same slightly comical visual style seen in previous games like Barbarian Gold. Asgard Warrior has a number of other things going for it, including a 243-ways-to-win structure and decent enough symbol values to make a good initial impression and pique players’ curiosity about what else it can accomplish.
When compared to 1×2 Gaming’s other, non-Megaways-powered games, Asgard Warriors is noticeably simpler in terms of functionality. Unlike Western Wilds or the Merry Men adaptation of Robbin’ Robin, there isn’t a plethora of unlockables or safe-cracking antics. The simpler aspects of Asgard Warrior aren’t awful, and the Warrior Spins liven up the main game by sometimes unleashing some interesting premium-only action. If a scatter symbol or two appears during a round of free spins, the multiplier will rise and the round will last longer. The review’s testing didn’t reveal any major issues, but the game should still be capable of delivering victories of 2000x or more.
Asgard Warrior has several redeeming qualities, but its low return to player percentage is a major drawback. There is no shortage of other Viking games that are just as fun and provide greater odds. The poor potential return may have been acceptable if Asgard Warriors had accomplished something truly remarkable. Asgard Warriors has a positive vibe from its visuals, features, and gameplay, but it fails to deliver on the promise it makes due to its lack of originality and excitement.
